ANI up 13% to half a cent today, but at that valuation I'm struggling to see what's driving conviction here. Anyone got insight into what's changed or is this just penny stock volatility?

ANI grinding higher at 13.41% today, finally breaking above that R0.05 resistance. Microshares in the financial space can be dicey but this kind of volume shift suggests someone knows something.
balance sheet's not broken but yeah the return profile is proper dull, thats the real problem. feels like ani's just warehousing capital instead of doing anything clever with it. other financials are actually making their money work, this one's stuck in neutral. could be something if management gets hungry but right now it's just a waiting room stock.
@mogale_morning what's actually moving the dial on margins though, seems flat to me
ani looks dead money at r4.99. balance sheet ain't great, financials sector is crushed this cycle. who's actually buying this thing expecting what exactly
Mate the thing is ANI's sitting on decent assets but nobody cares because the ROE is flat, that's the real story. You look at what other financial plays have done when they actually tighten up operations and suddenly the market notices, so if management can get margins moving this thing isn't worth R4.99 forever. Balance sheet's solid enough to not blow up but you need execution not just a steady hand.
last sens filing showed nav per share still under pressure, cash position tightened a bit. at r4.99 you're paying less than half what it was five years ago but the question is whether the asset base actually recovers or just bleeds slower. could read as either a value trap or a patient accumulation depending on management execution over next two years.
ANI sitting at R4.99 is basically where it's been stuck for ages. The financials aren't terrible but they're not inspiring either, feels like the market's just forgotten about it honestly. Comparing to other JSE financial plays, ANI's got decent enough assets but the returns aren't there to get people excited. Might be a patient man's play if they sort out their margins but not holding my breath.
ANI getting hammered down to 4 cents, but at these levels you're pricing in near-total collapse. Without current financials it's hard to justify the move, though a 12% drop on what looks like thin volume suggests panic selling rather than fundamental shift.
