JSE Market review
JSE Market overview, Weekly JSE market news

The JSE had a week best described as 'mixed bag, but make it volatile.' Gainers were genuine: Adcorp Holdings soared nearly 30% on what can only be hope-based buying, while Montauk Renewables and Stefanutti Stocks rode the infrastructure and renewable energy waves. Meanwhile, Southern Palladium shed nearly a fifth of its value—a reminder that commodity cyclicality still exists, even if you forget to sell on the way down. Most active stocks like Absa and ArcelorMittal were firmly in the red, suggesting institutions are rotating out of the old generals.

The interest rate picture turned grim this week. The Reserve Bank's Monetary Policy Review confirmed what every South African already knows: we're stuck in a holding pattern while external shocks keep the SARB's hand pinned to the table. Middle East tensions are pushing energy prices around like a drunk uncle at Christmas, and petrol prices are breathing heavily down the neck of inflation. The rand, bless it, oscillated between hope and despair—a mood swing that would make a retail trader's stop-losses audible from the Johannesburg Stock Exchange floor.

Market Spotlight

Market Spotlight

For EasyEquities investors, this week offers two hard truths: interest rate cuts are off the menu for now, which hurts bond yields and weakens refinancing stories, but keeps dividend stocks attractive on valuation. The 29% pop in Adcorp? That's speculative. The 19% dump in Southern Palladium? That's real money moving.

Next week is likely to be less volatile. We will have 2 days off on JSE. Nevertheless, there will be quite many events at Tuesday - Thursday. I believe next week we will talk about April outcome instead of weekly news. Anyway join our discussions inside the website.
